This summer, I interned at AZB & Partners, New Delhi, one of the top law firms in India. AZB & Partners handles matters related to mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, private equity, banking and finance, competition, litigation, and regulatory advisory work. I worked with associates and partners across these segments to gain a broad understanding of laws in India.
I found that my particular area of interest was the work that I had to do on mergers and acquisition, land, and competition related cases, some of which were of notable importance in India this summer. In addition to this work, I gained an understanding of the expectations clients and senior lawyers have of their staff.

It was also helpful to meet and work with a number of other interns from colleges in India. Through hearing about their experiences, I was able to better understand what Indian law schools have to offer, as I myself plan to apply to an Indian law school upon graduating from Georgetown University next year. The internship served as a good bridge for me as I work to more fully understand the Indian legal system.

Yash Johri (SFS’17) is a senior in Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service majoring in regional and comparative studies, with a particular focus on Asia. He is the president of the Georgetown-India Dialogue student group.
