Sri Lanka: A Tale of a Resilient Democracy

His Excellency Prasad Kariyawasam, Sri Lankan ambassador to the United States, joined the Asian Pacific Forum and the Georgetown Asian Studies Program for a discussion on Sri Lanka's recent political and electoral reforms to improve its democracy and repair its relationship with the United States and the West.
Speaking to Georgetown’s Journal of International Affairs, Ambassador Kariyawasam commented on Sri Lanka’s recent electoral change as well as the future challenges faced by the island nation. His remarks were followed by a conversation with Irfan Nooruddin, director of the Georgetown India Initiative.

Prasad Kariyawasam is the ambassador for Sri Lanka to the United States. He has held diplomatic assignments in Geneva, Riyadh, Washington, New Delhi, and New York.

Irfan Nooruddin is an associate professor in Georgetown's School of Foreign Service and the director of the Georgetown India Initiative.
