Peace and Security in India: A Conversation with AVM Arjun Subramaniam

Air Vice Marshal Arjun Subramaniam is a fighter pilot, scholar, and author who recently retired from the Indian Air Force after 36 years of service. In addition to being an experienced fighter pilot, Air Vice Marshal Subramaniam also holds a Ph.D. in defense and strategic studies from the University of Madras, India, and he has become one of India’s most respected strategic commentators and military historians, drawing on his own experiences and insights from more than three decades of military service.

On October 27, 2017 Air Vice Marshal Subramaniam gave a talk on peace and security in contemporary India, with a particular focus on how India’s wars have shaped its history and development. Dr. Christine Fair, Provost's Distinguished Associate Professor in Georgetown's Security Studies Program, served as a moderator and discussant. 

Christine Fair is the Provost's Distinguished Associate Professor of security studies in the Georgetown University Walsh School of Foreign Service.

Air Vice Marshal Arjun Subramaniam is an Indian Air Force veteran and author of India’s Wars: A Military History, 1947-1971 (Harper Collins, 2017). He is currently a visiting fellow at the Harvard Asia Center.
