In December 2015 dinner was held at the rooftop of the Oberoi, New Delhi to mark the launch of the Georgetown University India Initiative and to welcome School of Foreign Service Dean Joel Hellman to India.
Dean Hellman engaged in a conversation with MP Dr. Shashi Tharoor, former minister of state for the government of India and under-secretary-general at the United Nations, about his vision for the foreign service school and Georgetown's engagement with India.Shri Suresh Prabhu, India's minister of railways, and Shri Piyush Goyal, India's minister of state with independent charge for coal, power, and renewable energy, were the keynote speakers.
MP Poonam Mahajan, MP Rajeev Gowda, former external affairs minister Salman Khurshid, and former commerce minister Anand Sharma were some of the senior government officials at the event. Senior journalists, businessmen, and representatives of think tanks joined the Georgetown community of students, professors, alumni, and parents to celebrate Georgetown's deepened engagement with India.
