Zila Khan is a prominent Sufi musician who sings classical and semi-classical musical forms and performs in the tradition of Imdadkhani gharana. She sings in eight different languages and was awarded the prestigious “Roll of Honor” by former prime minister Manmohan Singh. She also works with India's Tourism Ministry as a representative of Indian heritage and culture.
The India Initiative, in partnership with the Embassy of India, hosted Zila Khan for a concert of Sufi music. This event was free and open to the public. Registration was on a first-come-first-serve basis and was mandatory for admission.
This event was co-sponsored by the Georgetown University India Initiative and the Embassy of India as part of the embassy's India@70 Celebrations and the initiative's ongoing commitment to bringing India to Georgetown and promoting cultural diplomacy between India and the United States.

She also does work a composer, director, and actress, such as a 2004 documentary she made about her father, Ustad Vilayat Khan.
