Prominent American journalist and author of the Pulitzer Prize-winning Ghost Wars Steve Coll offered a book talk on his latest book, Directorate S: The C.I.A. and America's Secret Wars in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Resuming the narrative of his earlier work Ghost Wars, Coll tells for the first time the epic and enthralling story of America's intelligence, military, and diplomatic efforts to defeat Al-Qaeda and the Taliban in Afghanistan and Pakistan since 9/11.
Coll currently serves as the dean of the Graduate School of Journalism at Columbia University and also served from 2007 to 2013 as president of the New America Foundation, a public policy institute in Washington, D.C. In his time as a journalist, Coll served in Delhi for a number of years as the Washington Post's South Asia bureau chief before returning to the United States to write for the New Yorker.
